Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club

Dress Code & Etiquette Guide

On the Golf Course

Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club asks all players to observe standards of dress consistent with the traditions and conventions of the game of golf, whilst taking account of current golf fashion.

For the avoidance of doubt, this means appropriate, tailored clothing as would be purchased in our golf retail shop and excludes any denim jeans, tracksuits, training shoes or combat trousers and shorts.

For men, golf shirts must be tucked into trousers and shorts at all times. Sports and trainer socks should either colour match the outfit or be white. Trousers must not be tucked into socks unless wearing plus twos or plus fours.

Changing clothes is not permitted anywhere other than in the locker rooms.

Changing shoes in the locker rooms is preferred by the club but not mandatory.

In the Clubhouse

Smart, casual attire (including clean jeans) and footwear are more than acceptable, unless otherwise stipulated by the event organiser on special occasions.

Golf shirts should be tucked into shorts/trousers unless specifically designed to be worn on the outside.

Clean golf wear (as defined above) is appropriate at any time, but no waterproofs or golf shoes are permitted beyond the spike bar please.

For men, socks are required, unless wearing deck shoes or loafers.

Flip-flops may be worn on the patio only.

Unacceptable in the Clubhouse

  • T-shirts; vests; sweaters with slogans or hoods that could be considered to be offensive
  • Hats and caps (unless due to health reasons)
  • Cargo trousers and shorts, tracksuits, and beachwear
  • Jeans, which are ripped, torn, or marked
  • Non-golf sportswear including football and rugby shirts

General Etiquette

Smoking, including e-cigarettes, is not permitted in the clubhouse, locker rooms, patio, offices, and pro shop.

Members are expected to show respect to staff, visitors and each other.

Please refrain from using bad or offensive language at all times.

Administering the Rules

All members are responsible for ensuring that they and any guests they bring are aware of and comply with the dress code.

We would also ask all our members to help ensure that their playing partners uphold the values and standards of our club.

To avoid embarrassment on all sides, the professional staff, club manager, board members and bar staff will advise members and visitors of the rules and take any appropriate actions.
