The course, designed by J.H Taylor, a five-time winner of The Open, and F.G. Hawtree, is renowned for having the finest greens in the county. It also enjoys a reputation for its exceptional presentation and pristine condition throughout the year, which attracts international, national, and county players as members.
The club has strong ties to Samuel Ryder, who was Captain in 1929 and founded the Ryder Cup in 1927. The Samuel Ryder Bar features a historic collection of Ryder Cup memorabilia in his honour.
